Licence plate recognition cameras help nab 3 suspects!

October 11, 2017

This morning, CAP’s Command Centre received an alert from a public space camera located along Louis Botha Avenue. The camera which is currently in a testing phase, is equipped with licence plate recognition software linked to a database of wanted vehicles. The camera flagged the vehicle as being wanted in connection with a business robbery that took place in Bekkersdal in April of this year.

CAP’s Command Centre strategically deployed resources, including CAP’s K9 Intervention Unit, to pursue the suspect vehicle. Upon entering 9th Avenue, Sydenham, the suspect vehicle was successfully stopped by CAP’s K9 Intervention Unit and all three occupants were apprehended.

SAPS were called to scene and the suspects were all subsequently arrested.

Well done to all parties involved in this success.
