Following a recent spike in armed robberies at various intersections along Jan Smuts Avenue, CAP would like to alert all motorists to two individuals perpetrating these crimes. The suspects, one armed with a firearm, approach their victims whilst stationary at red robots, demanding valuables.
The suspects are committing these robberies between 4pm and 8pm and are generally active on weekdays. The suspects are presumed to be between 20 to 24 years of age, both are average height and slim, clean shaven and have shaved heads.
We advise all motorists travelling along Jan Smuts Avenue to take cognisance of the above and practice the defensive behaviour recommendations mentioned below:
Whilst driving, avoid being distracted by your passengers, the radio or your cellphone.
Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
Keep all your valuables out of sight- your handbag should be stored in your boot or under your seat.
Keep your windows closed to create a barrier between yourself and a potential robber.
Be highly cautious of anyone that approaches you whilst idle at a robot.
