Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 4:50pm, while at an intersection on Louis Botha Avenue, a victim was approached by an armed suspect who tapped on the victim’s window. Reacting quickly, the victim drove away and notified the CAP Control Room who had already put together a comprehensive canvassing operation, using knowledge obtained from previous robberies.
Soon thereafter, an undercover CAP spotter in the area identified a male matching the description of the robot robber and immediately reported the suspect to the CAP control room. CAP then mobilized resources to create a net around the area to prevent the suspect from escaping. With the knowledge that the robberies involved an accomplice, the search commenced.
The suspect and his accomplice were located and a short foot chase ensued, leading to the apprehension of them both. A firearm was recovered and both suspects were handed over to SAPS.
At this time, we would like to encourage any victims of the robot robber to reach out to CAP in order to assist us with evidence that may lead to the conviction of the suspect and his accomplice.
We would like to commend all involved parties, specifically CAP’s dedicated team of analysts who worked tirelessly at linking this particular suspect to in excess of 20 crimes that took place both in and out of CAP areas. We will continue to work closely with SAPS to ensure that the suspects are charged for all previous crimes committed, and our Legal Team will provide a watching brief over the case to ensure that the suspects see the full force of the law.
