5 SUSPECTS APPREHENDED ON WILLIAM NICOL DRIVE FOLLOWING HIGH-SPEED CHASE AND SHOOTOUT!
Yesterday afternoon six suspects, at least two armed with firearms, driving a white Range Rover Sport arrived at a car dealership in Birnam and proceeded to hold up a victim who was offloading new vehicles. The suspects took a silver VW Golf 7 and proceeded to leave in both the suspect motor vehicle and the stolen vehicle in the direction of Kew. The Command Centre was alerted to the crime and proceeded to immediately dispatch Tactical Vehicles.
The suspects proceeded to dump the silver VW Golf 7 in Kew and then all left in the white Range Rover on 2nd Avenue towards Johannesburg Road. The speeding suspect vehicle was identified by one of our Area Commanders positioned in a strategic location and a chase ensued. The chase further escalated to a shootout on Modderfontein Road before continuing onto the N3 Northbound highway.
CAP’s (SIU) Special Intervention Units quickly arrived as back up along with members of JMPD who were also alerted to the incident. The pursuit continued along the N3 Western Bypass where, following another shootout, the suspects were pulled over near a service station on William Nicol Drive.
Five suspects were apprehended, with one suspect being shot and injured. A firearm was recovered along with the suspect motor vehicle and the stolen motor vehicle at a later stage. The sixth suspect managed to evade capture and CAP will be working closely with SAPS in the investigation to apprehend the final suspect. The suspect motor vehicle has also been linked to a known stolen vehicle following a hijacking that occurred last week outside of CAP’s operational areas.
Well done to all involved and a special congratulations to the members of JMPD who called in several units to ensure the capture of these criminals.
